Its beauty can be appreciated at first sight; it features incomparable
panoramas. It attracts many travellers with its richness and special
features.
Cagliari is situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, in a panoramic location
within the "Gulf of the Angels" (Golfo
degli Angeli in Italian) between two long beaches – Poetto and the
so-called "Pond of Cagliari" (Stagno
di Cagliari in Italian). It is the largest city on the Italian island of Sardinia and has a mild climate
throughout most of the year.
With our hotel as your base, a wide range
of attractions are within easy striking distance:
Take a stroll in the area
surrounding the hotel, through the streets of the oldest part of town, where
you will come across the beautiful square that is Piazza Yenne – a real hub for
fun and entertainment at all hours of the day and night; you may also like to
gaze at the city from the top of the Saint Remy Bastion, a delightful
monumental structure that leads into the quarter known as "Il
Castello" (Castello being the
Italian for "Castle"). In this part of Cagliari, which is
characterised by stone-built houses and narrow alleyways, you will come across
numerous traces of the city's Mediaeval history, first and foremost the Gothic
Cathedral of Santa Maria. You may then come to the promenade known as the
"Buon Cammino" and to the Roman Amphitheatre, which plays host to a
series of events and concerts during the summer. This area also features the
Botanic Garden (Orto Botanico in
Italian), boasting around 2000 plant species, which thrive in the mild climate
of southern Sardinia.
Poetto beach is a favourite with
locals and tourists alike. On sun-kissed days, its attractive kiosks offer food
and drink that you can then enjoy as you look out to sea. You can also hire sun
loungers and parasols.
The Santa Gilla Lagoon, an
internationally important site for wildlife, extends across 15,000 hectares and
is home to myriad species of flora and fauna, including pink flamingos and more
than 70 species of rare birds. These birds can also be spotted around the former
salt pans of the nearby Molentargius Park.
For those who like to take
short trips, you can reach the renowned beaches of Villasimius in
next-to-no-time by heading towards the eastern coast or by taking the wonderful
Chia coastal tract heading westwards.
Cagliari is an easy city to get to know and
enjoy, since it offers numerous museums, cinemas, coffee bars, parks, tourist
bus routes, exhibition spaces, tours and excursions, and much more besides.
